ऐक्ष्वाक: descendent of Ikshvaku, नृपवरात्मज: son of best of kings, स: he, घोरसङ्काशम् dreadful, अविप्रहतम् untrodden, वनम् forest, दृष्ट्वा having seen, मुनिपुङ्गवम् foremost of ascetics, पप्रच्छ asked.
