तस्मिन् मुनौ when that ascetic, उक्तवाक्ये had spoken the words, वीरौ two heroes, राघवलक्ष्मणौ Rama and Lakshmana, उभौ both, कथाम् story, प्रतिनन्द्य enjoying, मुनिपुङ्गवम् preeminent ascetic, ऊचतु: uttered.

While Viswamitra preeminent ascetic among the sages was telling the story (of Ganga) to the heroic Rama and Lakshmana, they extolled it and enquired: The devatas create obstacles to the marital bliss of Maheswara and Parvati--Goddess Parvati curses the devatas and the mother earth.
