तदा then, पुरुषव्याघ्रे tiger among men, तस्मिन् that Rama, कृताज्ञलौ with folded palms, निष्क्रामति while (he was) leaving, अन्तःपुरे in the inner apartment, स्त्रीणाम् women's, महान् great, आर्तशब्दः cries of distress, जज्ञे arose.

When the tiger among men (Rama) was coming out with folded palms, there arose a huge cry of distress among the ladies of the harem: Rama enters to the inner apartment of his mother Kausalya--informs her of his exile to the forest--lamentations of Kausalya.
